Studio Gauthier

We visited Studio Gauthier this past weekend to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Having previously eaten at its sister restaurants, 123V and Gauthier Soho, and loved them both, booking a table at Studio Gauthier was a no-brainer.

The restaurant is located in central London, on a quiet street just a short walk from Tottenham Court Road Underground Station. We visited for lunch on a lovely summer afternoon and had the pleasure of sitting outside on the patio.

The Food Takes Centre Stage

Having enjoyed the other Gauthier restaurants, our expectations were high.

Thankfully, the food did not disappoint.

We started with the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Crispy & Spicy V-Tuna Roll. After enjoying the sushi at 123V, there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to have it again. The salad was fresh and flavourful, while the V-Tuna Roll was every bit as good as I remembered.

For my main course, I chose the Sunflower and Tomato Tortellini. It was delicious and packed with flavour. The dish came with what the menu described as tomato and kaffir lime water, which was poured over the tortellini at the table. Something that looked so simple had no business containing that much flavour.

My partner ordered the Grilled Maitake Mushroom with a side of layered potatoes. The mushroom was lovely, but the layered potatoes, garnished with Gauthier Kelp Caviar, nearly stole the entire meal.

You read that correctly — vegan caviar!

Those potatoes were so good that I would happily eat an entire plate of them on their own.

Finishing with Dessert

It wouldn’t be a birthday celebration without dessert.

We tried the Classic Vanilla Crème Brûlée — you may have noticed a pattern in my dessert choices — and the Cherry, Vanilla and Pistachio Cheesecake. Both were delicious and provided the perfect finish to a wonderful meal.

Is Studio Gauthier Worth Visiting?

I wouldn’t be writing about Studio Gauthier if I didn’t think you should try it.

It isn’t an inexpensive restaurant, so it will remain on my list of places to visit for special occasions. It is also somewhere I would happily take friends visiting London, particularly those who need to discover — or be reminded — just how exciting vegan and plant-based food can be.

You can book a table and explore the latest menus and upcoming events on the Studio Gauthier website.
