Mallow

Mallow is the sister restaurant to Mildreds and currently has one location in London’s Borough Market. Its Canary Wharf restaurant closed in 2025, leaving the original Borough Market location as the place to experience Mallow’s more refined take on plant-based dining.

Mallow describes itself as a 100% plant-based and sustainable restaurant. Its menus are inspired by cuisines from around the world, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients, minimal waste and produce sourced from small businesses wherever possible.

A calm escape in Borough Market

Mallow is housed in a beautiful historic building opposite Southwark Cathedral, right in the middle of bustling Borough Market. The market is usually busy and noisy, but stepping inside Mallow feels like entering a much calmer space.

The restaurant has a stylish, slightly more sophisticated atmosphere than Mildreds, while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. It works equally well for a casual lunch, dinner with friends or a meal that feels like a bit of an occasion.

Beautifully presented plant-based food

This is another plant-based restaurant where I have never had a bad meal. We do not visit nearly as often as we should, but every meal I have had there has been memorable.

The menu changes with the seasons, so there is usually something new to try. The dishes draw inspiration from different cuisines and tend to be colourful, creative and beautifully presented without feeling fussy.

The photograph above is from a lunch at the former Canary Wharf location in December 2023. I can confirm that the meal was every bit as delicious as it looked.

Save room for dessert

Whatever you order, I strongly recommend leaving room for dessert. Mallow’s desserts are every bit as good as its savoury dishes.

The crème brûlée is particularly wonderful. It is rich, creamy and beautifully presented, with the crisp caramelised top you would hope for. It is easily one of the best vegan versions I have tried.

Is Mallow worth visiting?

Mallow is an excellent choice if you are looking for plant-based food that feels a little more special. The peaceful atmosphere, creative seasonal menu and excellent desserts make it a welcome retreat from the crowds of Borough Market.

You do not need to be vegan to enjoy it. I would recommend Mallow to anyone who appreciates imaginative food, thoughtful presentation and a relaxed setting in the heart of London.
