Raise your hand if you love dessert. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who didn’t like dessert. Even if it is a cheese board — and don’t get me started on my feelings about those being on a dessert menu!
For me, there are three desserts I gravitate towards when I’m at a restaurant — sticky toffee pudding, crème brûlée and tiramisu. If all three are on the menu, the deliberation over which one to order is challenging.
That’s why I have a huge appreciation for a new place that recently opened at BOXPARK in Shoreditch. Let me introduce you to Giuseppe’s Tiramisu.
Pop-up Success
Giuseppe’s appeared on my radar earlier this year when chef Giuseppe Federici did an incredibly successful pop-up at BOXHALL at Liverpool Street. Through social media, I saw how they were selling out every day from his limited menu of vegan Italian food. All the reviews I saw had people raving about the tiramisu.
Unfortunately, I never made it over to experience the pop-up, so I missed out on trying both the food and the tiramisu. Luckily, I can stop kicking myself for not getting over there to support Giuseppe’s pop-up, because now I can head over to Shoreditch whenever I get a craving.
As part of BOXPARK, Giuseppe’s is a small establishment. When my partner and I visited, we had just had an amazing Ethiopian lunch at Merkamo, so we had already decided we’d be taking our goodies home for later.
Some Seriously Good Tiramisu
I originally wrote that heading with the word “vegan” in it. But I don’t think it needs the qualifier. It’s just seriously good tiramisu, full stop.
On our visit, the menu included three flavours of tiramisu — Biscoff, Nutella and Pistachio. I think the Pistachio must be a special edition, as it’s not on the main menu provided online.
My partner chose Biscoff, making it easy for me to choose Nutella. Both were incredible. Giuseppe has found the perfect mix of flavours, so no single ingredient is overpowering. With a fluffy, light cream and soft, coffee-soaked layers, I cannot get over how wonderful this tiramisu is.
The serving size is generous. In fact, I managed to hold off eating the whole portion in one go — and potentially making myself sick — so I got to have the remaining half the next day.
